Kansas City Chiefs State They Are Aware of Domestic Violence Allegations Involving Wide Receiver Rashee Rice

The NFL franchise released a comment on Wednesday evening confirming they are aware of claims of abuse circulated in online accounts by a former girlfriend of wide receiver Rashee Rice and had been in contact with the league office.

The organization omitted the name of Rice by name in their announcement and stated they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.

Claims Shared on Social Media

The woman, who likewise did not name the athlete directly, shared a series of photos on social media that seemed to depict indicators of bodily harm. Jones did say the individual in question was the father of her children, and it is known she has two children with the football player, whom the team drafted in the second round.

Official Complaints Reportedly Not on File

No police reports were on file in the Kansas City suburb where the alleged abuse is said to have occurred.

Player's Prior Off-Field Troubles

Rice missed the first six games of this NFL campaign following an league-mandated ban for his role in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Texas roadway that resulted in multiple people hurt. Rice was sentenced a month of incarceration and five years’ probation after entering a guilty plea to serious offenses.

On the field, Rice concluded the season with 53 catches for 571 yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs finished with a losing record and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first occasion in a decade.
